The computer really should have been designed to be more creepy looking too. I definitely echo what other people have said about wishing the other two characters had more fleshed out sections, maybe making it all about them in an endless struggle to take over the game. Having said that of course, it's only a minor part of a game that I otherwise loved, so not too big a deal. Just kind of embarrassing, I'm not sure how someone could create something as atmospheric and cool as the first part without recognising how awful that stuff is. Looking into how it all ties with other games from the same creator makes it even worse, to be honest. I rolled my eyes every time the main character made a comment about the gameplay. In terms of story, all the FMV stuff was pretty awful, both the performances and the writing. Obviously it's not the deepest card game it pretty much funnels any deck into a winning one, but the new mechanics it kept piling on in combination with the great boss fights meant it never bothered me much. Unfortunately it never managed to recapture the sublime tone of part 1, but I do appreciate the way it constantly reinvented itself. If you are still finding yourself interested, I would suggest trying that to see if you are actually fine with the card game or not before buying it. I like all the story/atmosphere around it, it’s very cool, but it’s all centered around the card game. That being said: there is a demo. So if you don’t find it appealing at all, I just don’t think the game is going to be fun for you. The card game itself - and the way you manage your deck - changes in meaningful ways throughout the game too, but the core of it remains the same. To the point that I got frustrated (though I beat it the next run) because I like those in theory, but don’t have much experience with playing them so I was a bit overwhelmed, hah.Īnd even past the roguelike part, you are always playing the card game that is always the main thing you’re doing in the game. It also feels like at some point it starts outright feeding you some powerful cards.īut before that point, it does feel like a roguelike deck builder. You start to unlock things that make the game easier/harder to lose, and some useful events start being available much earlier in a run than where you initially start to see them. So… the roguelike aspect of the game goes away later on, and even when it’s present it gets gradually easier because it wants you to progress past it. And it sucks because for a while there, I was super into this game. I'm very frustrated with this because I don't know if I'm playing the game correctly, and that's just the worst feeling in a video game. Isn't there some sort of persistent progression throughout the whole game in regard to my deck or is it back to square one every time? I'm hoping it's the former because I would hate the later. Is there a way to arrange your deck somehow? Maybe determine which cards you get at the beginning of a match, or discard some cards? Can I have more than one in my deck? At this point I've created like 5 or 6. I don't understand what determines their getting into my deck. Am I supposed to understand at this point in the game or am I missing something?Īlso, what's up with all the death cards? Sometimes I see them, sometimes I don't. ![]() I have tried moving the pieces a bunch, but I can't figure out the puzzle. I arranged the pieces exactly as the picture shows it, but I get 0/5. Twice now, after dying, I am shown the white room with a canvas that has a picture of the furniture that has the lock mechanism on it. I got there twice, never got to the boss. The furthest I got was the winter map (the third one). I've played a little over four hours, and died maybe 5 or 6 times.
